Personal Bio
Allie Redhorse Young is a citizen of the Diné (Navajo) Nation in Northern New Mexico. She is a storyteller and writer on a mission to increase the authentic representation of Native people in TV, film, and mainstream media by sharing the stories and traditions of her ancestors to help her community persevere in a world where they are largely invisible, underrepresented, and misrepresented. She founded Protect the Sacred to educate and empower the next generation of Native leaders to strengthen Indigenous sovereignty through civic engagement, Native youth development and centering Native voices in pop culture and media.
Project Description
Protect the Sacred develops Native young and womxn leaders by connecting them to Indigenous knowledge, history, and culture to reclaim their narratives, amplify their voices and visions, and build power for their communities. We connect Native youth and womxn with leaders and experts in film and media, journalism, politics, and social justice spaces to increase their access to resources and support them on their leadership journeys. We increase the participation of Native youth and womxn in upcoming elections and civic engagement activities and advance voting rights for Native communities to build political power, and amplify authentic narratives in media and popular culture to advance equity, justice and sovereignty for Native communities.
